GAX 1.3 for Orcas Ready to Ship - Are You Creating Your Own Software Factories?
by David Hayden ( Microsoft MVP C# )
I mentioned at that Tampa CodeCamp that you can't use the various Microsoft Patterns & Practices Software Factories on Orcas, because GAX 1.3 was still in development and it is that version which will support Orcas. It turns out development of GAX 1.3 is now complete and ready to ship, but P&P would like a little bit of information from you before releasing it. Hence, there is a quick 1 question poll mentioned here by Grigori that is harmless.
I thought, however, that all we needed was GAX 1.3 to run the current software factories on Orcas, but this appears not to be the case. Grigori implies that the various development teams need to release an updated version of the software factories to support GAX 1.3 and Orcas. So, unless you are creating your own software factories, GAX 1.3 on Orcas appears to be useless until the various patterns and practices development teams come out with new versions of their software factories.
I added a comment to the poll that I would love to see more screencasts and webcasts on how to create our own software factories. I have experience modifying the factories, but little experience on creating a factory from scratch. Unless I am mistaken, there is very little useful information on this topic that would help one understand how to build a software factory. This would be a perfect topic for a webcast series. Starting it in the next month would be perfect timing, because we have GAX 1.3 and Orcas Beta 2 to do it on.
