Green Tea - Lose Weight and Increase Metabolism

I was glancing at my wife's copy of Us Weekly ( July 18 2005 ) when I came across a health hints section, called 7 easy ways to lose weight!

It turns out the section was an advertisement for a diet pill, but what interested me was tip #1:

  1. Drink a cup of green tea each morning.  It's a proven, natural metabolism booster.

The tips were actually pretty good, and I will repeat them here except for the diet pill recommendation.  Diet pills would be a last resort in my opinion and should only be done based on the advice of your doctor.

Here are the tips:

  1. Drink a cup of green tea each morning.  It's a proven, natural metabolism booster.
  2. Eat breakfast.  It gets your metabolism going and helps you avoid overeating throughout the day.
  3. [Removed Diet Pill Reference]
  4. Walk a mile each day.  It's a fun, healthy, and easy way to burn some calories.
  5. Say no to fast food.  Eat twice as much as something healthy - vegtables and fruits are great choices.
  6. Drinks 10 ounces of water before each meal.  It's a simple way to say hydrated, and will keep you feeling satisfied longer.
  7. Stop eating at 8:00pm.  Late-night grazing tends to include lots of calories, and can start a binge.

These sounds like pretty good health hints to me for losing weight.

As far as drinking green tea to lose weight, I mentioned in a previous post that I don't think it is a silver bullet for losing weight, but I recommend it as part of your healthy diet and lifestyle.  Here is my previous post:

Studies show that green tea helps you lose weight by increasing your body's metabolism. Green tea helps you burn an extra 80 calories a day which adds up to 8lbs a year. For all you diet-conscienc people aout there green tea also helps to reduce cravings.

You may want to try an affordable, but high quality chinese green tea, like Dragon Well Lung Ching, or Japanese Green Tea, like Sencha.  You will not only get all the health benefits of green tea, but also a safe and natural aid to help with dieting and weight loss.
